A few moments ago, I chanced upon WordPress.com’s “What’s the Word” newsletter. Like last month, I instantly saw this month’s #Wordprompt. Previously it was “Bridge” and now it’s “Green.” I missed writing for the first word, but I will try my best to write something for this one now even if I am too swamped by other things this Easter weekend and all.
In the same newsletter, the WordPress.com Director of Video Michael Lanasa also gave great tips about videos and their role in today’s blogging and content creation world. For some reason, I was able to finish a video – talk about hitting two birds with one blogging stone.
Now, going back to the writing task. What shall I write? Where do I begin?
Here goes the proverbial brainstorming.
Green perspectives
At this point, I’d be trying to recall all the green-themed idiomatic expressions that I could muster. There may be more than what appears on this list, but I’ve got my gray hair as my alibi for not remembering them all.
Don’t be green with envy. Each one of us is unique. To each one’s own. Comparing ourselves to others to the point of vanity and bitterness is what Max Ehrmann’s Desiderata has been warning us not to take as our path.
Having a green mind is not always acceptable. People have different tolerance levels. Taking in green jokes or something similar is no exception – some can simply shrug things off but there are others who may be too sensitive not to care or be bothered.
As a mum, seeing green is not always a good thing either. P**p inspections with green sightings are a concern. For the non-tolerant or easily disgusted, spelling out the full word may make one turn green and ready to p*ke.
Green icons
Now, here’s where I would be needing my husband’s and sons’ help. They are fast readers and have a very retentive memory and well-functioning brains. However, I will still try my best to replicate what they easily could do – cite facts and trivia.
Here’s my roll call.
Green Lantern is a no-brainer. The fact that my littlest one has a miniature version of the DC Comics hero makes this the easiest to recall.
Reverend Green and his pals – Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, and Ms. Scarlet – are my new acquaintances but Fandom fans have known them for quite a while.
Green Arrow‘s TV flick was a success, to my heart if not to others. I seldom watch TV series because I’d rather know what comes next. But I was able to binge on every episode uninterrupted for hours on Netflix when I was still too bedridden and not bothered by anything else except the chronic pains, so it wasn’t too difficult.
Now my next ones do not have the word “green” on their names. However, they’ve got a predominantly green color somewhere on their persona in one way or another. Thus, I believe they should count, too – Master Yoda of Star Wars, the Incredible Hulk and She-Hulk, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Gamora of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Poison Ivy, and Ben 10.
Ooops! My husband has now told me he’s going back to work and I’m left with my toddler boss to take care of. I was planning to write about green authors, books, personalities, and the like.
I guess I’d be putting off writing the rest of the words for now. Well, some bits and pieces are better than totally nothing. Right? I thought so, too.
But, before I go, there’s one green viewpoint that’s supposed to be good that I’d like to mention. Going green will benefit our planet, all of us, and future generations. However, it seems like not all of us are on the same side of the conversation. Well, discussions and plans are a start. I am seeing the green light, so let’s give it a go.
So, that’s about it.
I’d try to do better next month.
Until then.
A safe, great, and meaningful Easter weekend to all of us – green lovers or not-so.
